Buchanan Macleod is a niche legal practice based in the business district in the heart of Glasgow, Scotland. Please find our main list of services below:
The firm’s specialisations are commercial and consumer debt recovery and credit management, insolvency and both domestic and commercial conveyancing. The firm was created in 2004 by Karen Buchanan and Christine Macleod, both former partners in Nolan Macleod from Glasgow City Centre and Kirkintilloch on the outskirts of the city.
The firm represents the interests of several international construction companies (FTSE 250), debt recovery agencies throughout the United Kingdom and nationwide chains of Builders Merchants. The team initially focused on B2B commercial debt recovery, pioneering the use of Late Payment Interest and Compensation in Scotland. However, the workload is now more diverse and the firm now has several major B2C consumer collections clients in a growing part of the business.
Insolvency work fits hand in hand with the debt recovery work and the firm’s client list includes most of the major Chartered Accountancy practices in Glasgow.
Buchanan Macleod also specialise in commercial and domestic conveyancing of most types including commercial leases, securities as well as acting for liquidators in insolvency related cases.
The firm has been involved in several recent leading cases, the most foremost being the case of Lamarra v Shields Landrover which was decided in the Court of Session in 2006 when they successfully had the issue of satisfactory quality decided in favour of the consumer. The garage unsuccessfully tried to argue that the warranty offered replaced the statutory rights of the consumer.
